It’s not often that I use Worcestershire sauce in my recipes, but whenever I need it, I always find myself at a loss in my pantry. What most people don’t realize is that you actually don’t need to have a fancy bottle of Worcestershire sauce on-hand because many of the ingredients contained in Worcestershire sauce are likely (and surprisingly) already in your pantry!
Traditional Worcestershire sauce contains anchovies or fish sauce, so it’s not vegan-friendly for those who follow a strict diet, or even for those who are non-vegan but prefer a less-pungent flavor. I stumbled across this delicious vegan Worcestershire sauce from Loving It Vegan, and I’ve adapted it to my taste preference and cooking style here for you to enjoy. I’ll give Loving It Vegan all the credit though – I simply made very minor tweaks and wanted to share it with all of you, so go give her all the love!
“Lea & Perrins®, the company that launched the sauce in 1835, says it originated from a request by Lord Marcus Sandys, the former Governor of Bengal who settled into the family seat of Ombersley Court in Worcestershire. During his time in India, he acquired a recipe for the sauce asked Lea and Perrins to replicate it.”
