There’s something about starting your day with a fresh smoothie that just gets you going – am I right? I love kickstarting my day with a punch of fruits and superfoods to help me feel energized and get me through that morning slump. I always recommend keeping a plethora of frozen fruits and vegetables in your freezer for mornings like these – that way, you can always have a refreshing smoothie any time you desire (plus, frozen fruits – namely, frozen bananas – will make your smoothie extra creamy). In addition to keeping a variety of frozen ingredients in my freezer, I also keep a stash of superfoods in my pantry; this includes hemp seeds, goji berries, açai powder, matcha powder, and spirulina.
If you haven’t heard of spirulina, it’s a blue-green algae that’s packed with tons of great vitamins and minerals including B, K, and E vitamins, as well as copper, iron, magnesium, zinc, potassium, and more. I love adding it to my smoothies, as it’s said to help cleanse, detoxify, and alkalize the body – not to mention, it turns my smoothie a beautiful mermaid blue!
“For 2.5 billion years, spirulina has thrived on Mother Earth in perfect helix shapes that resemble our DNA.”
