Looking for a go-to summer cocktail? I’ll bet this is new your favorite. Those who know me know I love an herb-y yet sweet cocktail, and this packs the perfect balance between flavors.

This recipe is a “berry” delicious twist on the classic margarita, and lucky for you, it’s super easy to make! I’ve found myself enjoying this margarita more than a classic margarita – yup, I said it. But sometimes you need a little change, and strawberries are always the answer. Dust your rim with a little sugar and you’ve got yourself the perfect summer treat!

“Mark your calendars, because every February 22, we come together for National Margarita Day to pay homage to our favorite celebratory cocktail!”

Strawberry Basil Margarita

CourseDrinks
Servings2 people

Ingredients

  • 6 large Strawberries (chopped finely)
  • 2-3 sprigs Fresh Basil
  • 2 oz Lime Juice (fresh squeezed)
  • 2 oz Simple Syrup
  • 4 oz Tequila (I prefer blanco)
  • 1/2 cup Ice
  • Sugar (for rim, optional)

Instructions

  • Remove stems from strawberries and chop as finely as possible. Add to a cocktail shaker.
  • Cut limes and squeeze fresh lime juice into cocktail shaker with chopped strawberries.
  • Break up basil into small bits and add to cocktail shaker. Then, take a cocktail muddler and muddle ingredients together to form a purée.
  • Add tequila and ice to cocktail shaker and shake until well-mixed.
  • If desired, wet the outer rim of your glass with lime juice and coat in sugar. Then, using a cocktail strainer, pour margarita over ice and top with strawberry slices and a sprig of basil.
