I tend to have those moments where I find myself getting lost in an endless stream of old photographs. I often transport myself to that very moment, in which I re-live all the laughs and emotions that went in to creating each and every shot..
My best friend typically comes to visit me here in California once a year or so, and each time we inevitably end up taking mini photoshoots of each other. One of the many times she visited, I decided to take her to the Korean Bell of Friendship in San Pedro, as she loves exploring unique places in the cities that she travels to.
The Korean Bell of Friendship was given to the United States by the Republic of Korea in 1976 to symbolize the friendship between both entities and to honor the veterans of the Korean War. It’s said to be among the largest bells in the world, weighing a total of 17 tons!Complete with beautiful, traditional architecture, this monument somehow looms in the park in a mysterious kind of way. In fact, the entire park in which the bell is located gives off an aura of ethereality. The bell is located atop a bluff overlooking the ocean, and the area typically tends to be quite windy. The locale offers beautiful views of the coast, though when it’s cloudy and foggy, it creates a somewhat eerie atmosphere. If you’re ever in Southern California (or if you haven’t visited the Korean Friendship Bell yet), I highly recommend going to see it as a quick little afternoon getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Pack a lunch, a blanket, a kite and maybe a jacket – and don’t forget your camera to take your own photoshoot while you’re there!
xx.
